DELAC Responsibilities

  1. Advise the School Board
    1. Help create plans and policies for EL students.
    2. Review and comment on the needs of each school.
    3. Set goals for EL programs
  2. Ensure Compliance
    1. Make sure teachers and instructional aides meet the required standards
    2. Review reclassification procedures for EL students.
  3. Review Communications
    1. Look over letters and notifications sent to parents and guardians
  4. Provide Input on Funding Plans
    1. Help with the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP), especially for language programs
  5. Participate in Training
    1. Attend training sessions to understand your role and responsibilities better
  6. Represent Your School Site
    1. Act as a nominee to represent your school's English Learner Advisory Committee (ELAC)
    2. Serve as a bridge between your school site and the district

The DELAC is a group of parents and guardians who help the school district make decisions about programs and services for English Learner (EL) students.
